Concept II

Do you have a go to catchphrase?

Always color with the biggest box of crayons!

What inspired you to join the world of design?

When I was barely a teenager, my father bought an Old English Tudor, and we spent our visitation weekends refurbishing it. At first, I thought the projects were chores, but over time, I saw that he valued my opinion on colors, & other finishes. His praise, and pride in completing each project, gave me confidence that I really wasn’t getting anywhere else.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

It’s the listening part. I like hearing about a client’s life & passions. I want to know where they’ve traveled, and what they’ve picked up along the way. Finding a way to honor what they treasure whether it’s earthly or intangible, is what makes the design successful.

What’s your must-have when working with a client or on a project?

I need communication from them. They have to participate, and react.

What’s your favorite brain food?

It has to be Sushi. The balance of textures, the vibrant colors & flavors. I like my food to bite me back.

Favorite room of the house?

I have to say the kitchen. Hours go by in a blink. It can meditative, or social, creative or comfortable. Work is done while memories are made, & lessons absorbed. Ingredients are combined, and then consumed & then appreciated. Messes are made & then all can be put right. It’s so simple, but gratifying.

If you were a cocktail what would you be? Why?

I’m a Mint Julep. A warm, rich, spicy, American bourbon, on ice, just a little bit sweet, garnished with a bright (some would say, obnoxious) herb.

If I wasn’t a designer I would be. . .

a Pastry Chef/Sugar Architect.

If I were to have a super power it would be?

I’m more Harry Potter than Marvel Comics… Can I just have a wand get sorted into Gryffindor? Je suis prest.

What separates Trend from Timeless?

Yea! “Timeless” is my favorite industry buzz word right now. I just wrote a blog on that very subject. You’ll have to read the blog to find out! http://concept-ii.com/2016/02/17/defining-timeless-design/

Who is your favorite Oceanside Glasstile showroom to work with?

MINE! I love loose samples, they remind me of homemade hard candy.
